(57,173 posts)I know, it is not done on purpose, but that is the effect. I too use nicknames, but I try to use ones that are immediately recognizable. So "tRump", "RepubliCon", "Muck". Sometimes I use terms like Cantaloupe Caligula or Mango Mussolini when the context is clear and at least those have reference to fascism, authoritarianism, and makeup colour. Krasnov is orthogonal.

(36,354 posts)It is clearly a reference that he is and has been a Russian asset for decades. It goes to the heart of his tratiorous actions and that he is an enemy of the United States.
It is not an in group cutey nickname, it is a direct accusation of the motivations for his actions.

(57,173 posts)Also, I think the Putin puppet theory is oversold and overbought on DU. tRump does what he does for narcissistic personal gain. He really doesn't care about anyone else. It is the simplest and most powerful explanation for his actions. We read all the time on right wing sites that "Democrats are actively working to destroy America because they hate it." Flipping it and saying it on DU is just as nonsensical. tRump probably had Russian help in 2016, and he reveres Putin for his authoritarian power and wealth, so for example he was very toady and puppy-doggy at the famous Helsinki summit.
Never forget two key points: 1) Rs and Ds have the same values: freedom, justice, family, country, and religion or rejection of. Ds add broader communities because they have more empathy. 2) They both act semi-rationally and semi-emotionally but have been trained to view things through very different lenses. Personally I think Ds are less trained, more diverse in view point, and clearer in vision.
tRump does not want to destroy the US. He just doesn't care what gets broken and damaged and who gets injured or killed, especially if they are not rich white people, especially males. He doesn't wake up saying "How can I destroy the US?" He wakes up saying "What can I do for myself today?" He thinks he is saving the US and the world from wokism and communism (and that he deserves to be ten times richer and twice as powerful). Hence his aspirations for the Nobel Peace Prize. But he is primarily very self-centered and not hardly at all introspective and has little or no empathy for others. He is famously transactional.

(104,143 posts)If DUers said "Agent Krasnov", then there'd be a clue that it's about a claim he's an asset. But people don't, so it would leave most Americans clueless. It is a nickname. DUers may not intend it to divide readers into an in group and an out group, but it does. Not so much of a problem if the first use of it is inside a thread, but anyone using it in a thread title ought to realise that only regular DUers will know who they mean.

(104,143 posts)I just tried. I get the Google AI response that it's a Russian surname, in particular a Tsarist general who went on to collaborate with the Nazis, and a Russian-Sebian architect; then I get the Wikipedia entry for the general. Third (and therefore after you've scrolled), I do get a Euronews article about Trump (note that this is "Euronews", not a source many people, especially Americans, turn to for info), then we're back to the general.
All in all, this is not the way to get Americans to read something. Why make someone look something up, rather than talking to them with information they understand at once? It's like a thread with a meaningless title and a video link with no explanation. It divides readers into "those who already know this" and "those who don't, and still don't".

Fact check: Was Donald Trump recruited by the KGB and codenamed 'Krasnov'?

(104,143 posts)That would be a really useful thing (setting your browser to add "-AI" used to work, but they did something to stop that working).

(74,782 posts)Krasnov fought for the old Czar and Royal Family order in the Bolshevik Revolution during
which he executed > 30,000 White Russians, and in WW II he fought with and for the Nazis.
The Soviet Union executed him after the war.
Look @ his Wiki page.
