Trumps use of in "two weeks"

.................White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt took heat from a reporter after announcing that President Donald Trump had punted on whether to attack Iran, giving himself a two-week deadline to decide.

The reporter pointed out to Leavitt that Trump has previously given himself two-week deadlines on other major decisions, particularly related to the Russia-Ukraine war, and then failed to meet them.
..............
The last two-week deadline Trump set came on May 28, with regard to determining whether Russian President Vladimir Putin actually wants peace against Ukraine. It came and passed last week with no acknowledgment from the president.

On April 24, Trump used the two-week line to evade a reporter’s question about aid to Ukraine. Three days later, asked whether he trusted Putin, the president said, “We’ll let you know in two weeks.”

And on May 19, Trump was asked whether Ukraine had done enough to foster negotiations. “I’d rather tell you in about two weeks from now because I can’t say yes or no,” Trump said...........

to not discuss something.
And then, of course, after two weeks no reporter asks him about the two weeks because they have long moved on to whatever is his latest outrage or two weeks.

Same as the lessons of "never back down" "never apologize" always attack" "delay, delay delay"..

The stuff he learned as a young man and now it's all he can remember in his demented mind.

It’s his way to make it seem like thought will be given to a subject, when in reality that subject will be dropped and no more thought or attention will be paid. And the media and people of this country will be distracted 10x over before even 1 week passes.

15. It's a well known political tactic.

For example, in one episode of The Good Wife, S6.E17, Undisclosed Recipients after Alicia has won her race she's told by her spin expert, Eli, that if anyone asks for a decision she's to say, "I'll make my decision in 48 hours." She proceeds to tell person after person (donors) that exact canned phrase.

It's a play on the tactic.

Anyone who believes and reports such garbage is an idiot.

18. Maddow Blog-A familiar metric: White House says to expect Iran decision within 'two weeks'

Donald Trump's reliance on a two-week timeline for a decision on Iran represents a striking failure of self-awareness.

The White House says Trump’s decision on Iran is “two weeks” away.

It’s rare to see a failure of self-awareness this brazen. Does the administration not realize that we’re all well aware of the “two week” trick? Which they’ve relied on far too often, for far too long? www.msnbc.com/rachel-maddo...

Evidently, I can stop hitting refresh — for two weeks.

At her latest briefing, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt acknowledged the “speculation” about the White House’s policy, which led her to read a prepared statement from the president. It read, “Based on the fact that there’s a substantial chance of negotiations that may or may not take place with Iran in the near future, I will make my decision whether or not to go within the next two weeks.”

It’s difficult to say with confidence whether these negotiations exist or whether they’ll succeed, but the fact that Trump and his team has rolled out another “two week” timeline represents a remarkable failure of self-awareness.

Last week for example, the president said U.S. trading partners should expect letters on unilateral tariff rates in “two weeks.” Shortly before that, the president was asked about Vladimir Putin’s alleged interest in “peace.” He replied, “I can’t tell you that, but I’ll let you know in about two weeks.”

Last month, Trump was asked about tariff rates on pharmaceutical products. “I’ll know in the next two weeks,” he said.

Alas, we can keep going. Where’s Trump’s health care plan? It’ll be ready in “two weeks.” What about a possible minimum-wage increase? That, too, will be unveiled in “two weeks.” On everything from tax policy to infrastructure, immigration to reproductive health, the president’s detailed solutions are always just “two weeks” away......

In this latest example, a reporter felt compelled to remind Leavitt of the familiarity of the administration’s latest timeline.

If recent history is any guide, she and Trump will keep using it anyway, indifferent to the embarrassment.
