In a statement provided by his campaign to The Associated Press, Griffin said he would not appeal Mondays decision by U.S. District Judge Richard Myers, who also ordered that the State Board of Elections certify results that show Riggs is the winner by 734 votes from over 5.5 million ballots cast in the race.
Griffins decision sets the stage for Riggs to be officially elected to an eight-year term as an associate justice.
While I do not fully agree with the District Courts analysis, I respect the courts holding just as I have respected every judicial tribunal that has heard this case, Griffin said. I will not appeal the courts decision.
Myers delayed carrying out his order for seven days in case Griffin wanted to ask the 4th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals to review his decision. Democrats, meanwhile, had called on Griffin to accept defeat.

(11,133 posts)tax dollars spent on this childish Trump playbook?
And our state needs that money to recover from Helena, being FEMA has been gutted by another childish Republican. The biggest one. The Childishes one. (I know words, I got the best words.)😖
And if this court seat is term limited, we must add six months to her seat. With back pay. And fines to the GQP prick.

(2,727 posts)I'm sure many more judgements will be coming down in the months ahead that the R's won't be pleased with, but this case establishes some momentum for the idea of obeying court decisions. It's not a guarantee of anything, but I'm certainly glad it got resolved this way.

(12,371 posts)I fully expected this to be appealed, at least the Circuit Court of Appeals - and probably SCOTUS.

Glad he's not appealing. He's dragged this thing out long enough.
