(365 posts)Need to eviscerate him on his dinner and praise of trump. Who cares if you aren't invited back. Maher torpedoed his career.

(2 posts)Maher used to be relevant but since he got scared of cancel culture he's. become a cowering sycophant.

(30,148 posts)I haven't watched his show in years, because of his obnoxious pimping of rightwing causes. And the only reason I'd even think of watching tonight's episode would be to see if he's still wearing his White House kneepads---and I don't even give much of a shit about that, anymore...

(50,049 posts)In a democracy we have to be familiar with all points of view, to stay away from groupthink.
Thank you for posting

(8,669 posts)I can't find fault in wanting to hear various viewpoints. I am like that to an extent -- I don't want to hear from propagandists -- but I just find Maher's mixture of arrogance, ignorance and lack of rational, critical thought to be disqualifying. I would prefer to read the opposing viewpoints of those who reflect more earnest attempts to keep themselves informed as opposed to a narcissistic yukster simply seeking pop culture relevance and privilege.

(4,198 posts)I do wonder if the definition of all points of view includes the views of FAUX News, Newsmax, The Daily Caller, Nazis, the KKK and the like.

(50,049 posts)He is 69 years old and is running out of a unique show. For years his audience was heavily liberal but if he is alienating them then he is done.
I appreciated many of his opinions. When he pointed to privileged students condemning the west while enjoying all the benefits of Western Civilization https://democraticunderground.com/100218425456
Or the bizarre concept of Queers for Palestine.
And, yes, his support of Israel against all the protesters who had no idea of the issues but were full of hatred.
His ignorance of basic health issues, the need for masks, mocking individuals wearing masks really grated on me and I have often posted here.
But, I suppose, his goal has been to rile people so perhaps he is satisfied.
Last week I could not listen to Bannon and stopped watching from that point. Perhaps it was important to hear Bannon so sure on how they will accomplish a third term. Something that we will have to watch closely.
So, few more weeks. Will see.
Again, thank you for your comments.
