URGENT: Our client at Bluebonnet Facility in the Northern District of Texas, represented by the @ACLU, was told hell be removed under the Alien Enemies Act TONIGHT/MORNING
@reichlinmelnick.bsky.social
🚨URGENTDespite the Supreme Court declaring that it would be illegal to deport people under the Alien Enemies Act without giving them a meaningful chance to seek judicial review, the Trump admin is reportedly about to send a group of Venezuelans detained in Texas to El Salvador in a matter of hours!

The Supreme Court ruled that the Trump admin must provide notice "within a reasonable time and in such manner as will allow them to actually seek habeas relief."
According to @legalaidnyc.bsky.social, the Trump admin may in fact be giving people only a matter of HOURS to get a lawyer and sue!

Earlier today, a federal district court with jurisdiction over the Bluebonnet ICE detention center denied a class action Temporary Restraining Order as unecesssary because the government promised it would give the plaintiffs sufficient notice.
Now they're giving people less than 24 hours.

The judge JUST issued a new notice on the docket, suggesting that someone had called his chambers, and telling the parties to file a new Temporary Restraining Order if needed. He said opposing party would have 24 hours to reply which may be too late.
Docket: https://www.courtlistener.com/docket/69898198/aarp-v-trump/?filed_after=&filed_before=&entry_gte=&entry_lte=&order_by=desc

The spotlight will be on the Bluebonnet ICE Detention Center tomorrow. Will they actually go ahead and effectively defy the Supreme Court's ruling that anyone subject to the Alien Enemy Act must be given a meaningful opportunity to seek judicial review? Will a new TRO be issued?
More to come on this. I fully expect a new TRO filing to go onto the docket late tonight. And the government, now that this is known publicly, may back down somewhat.
Unlike the first flights on March 15, these ones are now public ahead of time.
I'm going to bed. Let's see what tomorrow brings.

If only the Nazis had called Auschwitz the 'Edelweis Konzentrationslager'. It paints a mental picture of a much happier place!

It makes me sick. I hate this like I've never hated anything before.

(331 posts)Dancing is illegal there. The whole county, Jones, is a bleak place, no jobs except at the prisons or the soon to be defunded schools.
In a different era, Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton won the county, and it was home to Democratic Rep Charlie Stenholm.
