(4,370 posts)What I can't understand are the people that are around him are encouraging this. Republicans that are in the senate and the house have got to see the damages he is causing but yet they don't do anything.
Don't they realize that if they don't do something the Republican party is doomed?

(3,011 posts)He keeps referring to. Dont see any prices going down. Cheapest eggs $5 a dozen. Farm raised $8-$10 a dozen. Thank goodness Coronas are only $14 for a 12 pack (maybe New Mexico made a deal with Mexico?) because someone said a 12 pack was super expensive somewhere else in the country.
Be well DU community.

When was the last time Been A Dick Donald actually went shopping?
Filled his gas tank?
I can say with absolute certainty that prices ARE NOT GOING DOWN, diesel fuel alone has risen by .50 cents a gallon in the last 3 weeks.

Well some do just go with it but not all.

(54,991 posts)*prices* are still going up, but *inflation* -- the rate at which prices are going up -- is lower, at least depending on which month you compare it to.
Again, though, that's due to him causing a completely avoidable recession, not remotely worth slowing inflation by a fraction of a percent.

(4,733 posts)Also, as of April 15, the U.S. had received more than $2.3 billion in customs duties and certain excise taxes for the month, according to a Treasury Department daily financial statement. If that total included just tariffs, since excise taxes are different from customs duties, it still would be roughly $156 million per day in revenue. (Treasury data for only custom duties paid in April wont be available until May. In February, there was about $259 million a day in customs duties paid, and the March per-day total was roughly $264 million.) Economists we consulted were also skeptical of the presidents claim of billions of dollars in daily tariff collections to date. No, there is absolutely no way we are collecting $2b per day in tariff revenue, Gene M. Grossman, an economics and international affairs professor at Princeton University, told us.
As for Trumps claim that the U.S. lost $2 billion a day or $3 billion a day during the Biden administration, Grossman and Johnson both said that the presidents statement appears to be based on the U.S. international trade deficit not revenue from tariffs.
In 2024, Bidens final year as president, the U.S. trade deficit in goods and services was more than $918 billion, according to the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis. The trade deficit in goods alone was about $1.2 trillion. Divide either by 365 days, and you get an average per-day deficit of between $2.5 billion and $3.3 billion. My guess is thats what Trump is mentally doing since trade deficits mean youre losing in his vocabulary, Johnson said. However, Grossman said its ridiculous to think of that as a loss, since the U.S. got the goods. He also said its ridiculous to equate [the average daily trade deficit] in some way to tariff revenue.
