it will be the "nuclear version" of the tariffs shocking the market. He ran a clip of Elizabeth Warren saying if Chairman Powell can be fired it will crash the markets, and will make us indistinguishable from any other dictatorship around the world.
Personally, I think he'll keep threatening in hopes of intimidating Powell into lowering rates, but he doesn't have the right to fire him. It is illegal.

(21,663 posts)Someone in my very liberal California neighborhood proudly flew a Trump flag proclaiming "Make liberals cry again". It was mildly irritating but most people just ignored it. Well, it came down during the tariff upheaval. Gotta wonder what's going through these maga types' heads and why they're suddenly seeing clearly now. But, better than never I suppose.

(54,747 posts)He's unlike to raise OR lower rates for a couple of months, maybe longer.
He has two mandates, by law: 1) Protect against inflation gaining a permanent hold in the minds of Americans, 2) Protect jobs by encouraging economic activity during slowdowns and contractions.

(21,663 posts)But as we can see from his other appointments, competency is not always high on his list to put it mildly.

(40,357 posts)He sure doesn't care about competency. I read that Powell will sue him if he tries to fire him. And he'd probably win. Now that might be the reason!
