https://apnews.com/article/florida-state-university-shooter-alert-bf66a24ea91959697c7138089b2ef6fbTALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) The 20-year-old son of a sheriffs deputy opened fire Thursday at Florida State University with his mothers former service weapon, killing two people and wounding at least six others, investigators said.
Officers quickly arrived and shot and wounded the shooter after he refused to comply with commands, said Tallahassee Police Chief Lawrence Revell.
Authorities have not yet revealed a motive for the shooting, which began around lunchtime just outside the student union, sending students and frightened parents hiding for cover in a bowling alley and a freight elevator inside the building.

Is FSU Shooting Suspect Phoenix Ikner A Trump Supporter? GOP Registration, Old Quotes Surface
A user on X claimed that Phoenix Ikner is a registered Republican, pointing to his Florida Voter Registration form, which lists his party affiliation as Republican. The post also highlights Ikners Instagram bio, noting he frequently quotes the Bible, suggesting a conservative identity.
Many users on X have shared an image of an article in FSUNews in which Ikner makes a comment about an anti-Trump rally on the campus ahead of Trump's January 20 inauguration. In an article, Ikner is quoted as saying, These people are usually pretty entertaining, usually not for good reasons. I think its a little too late, hes [Trump] already going to be inaugurated on Jan. 20 and theres not really much you can do unless you outright revolt, and I dont think anyone wants that.

(14,609 posts)3. She had a legal obligation to keep those weapons locked up
There'll be a perfunctory investigation, she'll go on "administrative leave," and she'll get a stern talking to.
Although, to be frank, the fact that she's a woman makes it more likely she'll face actual consequences than if she were a male deputy.

The alleged shooter was a long-standing member of the sheriffs offices youth advisory council, the sheriff said.
He has been steeped in the Leon County Sheriffs Office family, engaged in a number of training programs that we have, McNeil said. So its not a surprise to us that he had access to weapons.
