https://www.seattletimes.com/seattle-news/ice-stops-by-spokane-valley-home-for-welfare-check-of-16-year-old/
Last week, a 16-year-old who fled Honduras two years earlier frantically called her attorney at Manzanita House. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents were at her uncles home in Spokane Valley, asking where she was.
They said they were doing a welfare check, but Im worried. Why would they need so many agents to do a welfare check? said the girl, whose first name is Yolanda. There were three ICE agent cars parked in my uncles driveway.
But according to ICE, these welfare checks have become routine in the last couple of months.
In an email to The Spokesman-Review and Spokane Public Radio, ICE states that U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement began conducting investigative activities in January to ensure unaccompanied alien children released from the care of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office of Refugee Resettlement are not subjected to crimes of trafficking and exploitation.

(68,187 posts)Putin makes a fortune running sex and drug trafficking rings.
Trump would love to do that same thing.
Kidnap immigrant children.
Disappear them.
Just like all the children Trump kidnapped the first time he was in office.
Spirited away during the night on secret flights.
Where did they go? How many were recovered?
We are supposed to believe no one made money from all of that?

(2,132 posts)... when all the instruments of "Due Process" are being ignored, or just trashed outright by a treasonous horde of right wing psychopaths who control all the levers of power, what do you propose we do? Asking for several million friends.

(2,132 posts)... initiating 2A, but the MAGA horde will not hesitate to do so, in which case, I would be obliged to demonstrate my exceptional marksmanship.
The US Marshal Service is controlled, and now manipulated, by the grotesquely corrupt DOJ under AG Bondi, so they would be of little use in defense of the Constitution, but I believe the states have the authority to activate the National Guard, and to direct the state police. They are extreme measures, to be sure, but, in response to such an extreme crisis, any and all options must be considered. However, appeasement is not one of those options. Ever.

Sen. Lisa Murkowski, R-Alaska, joined Sen. Jon Ossoff, D-Ga., in a letter criticizing the end of a federal contract that provides legal representation to 26,000 children who are in the U.S. without a parent or guardian.
The decision to end the contract in late March "puts children directly at risk of trafficking and exploitation, and harms any hope of a fair legal process for thousands of vulnerable children," they wrote to Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. on Tuesday.
Words in bold print are highlighted by me.

(113,216 posts)because peoplewho trace their ancestry to northwestern Europe are only about 32% of the population here. T;his state was settled uip from Mexico long before the Pilgrims landed. Tribal people were here to meet them and are still here.
There are also 80 year old grannies who have gang tats they got in the 1950s before they had their kids and went straight.
None of the bigot triggers are what they seem around here.
Yeah, we know they;re coming. I just can't wait to see what happens when they do.

A minor with a pending green card is clearly here legally and documented. ICE is just intimidating people for no apparent reason.

(48,488 posts)so yes, it is very intimidating since laws don't apply anymore. They just make it up as they go.

(3,904 posts)My friendss 80+ Canadian mother had a US permanent resident card for 60 years. We picked her up at a small airport after a weekend visit on Pelee Island, CA on Lake Erie and the Homeland security officer told us that there was no such thing as a permanent resident card any more. He took the card away from her and told her to make arrangements to get another card. It took many trips to get this straight and ultimately she had to write letters to every police chief in every US city she had lived in to get a letter from the current chief of police (+5) stating she had never been arrested or caused trouble there. In the meantime of course she had no papers, was on Medicare and a widow of a federal employee. That was a giant, unnecessary problem that took many many months to put right to say nothing of the uncertainty and fear they instilled in her. The crazy things they do today frightening.

(61 posts)their location and demand they obey the law, not the lawless. If that doesnt work you must get it together and act against them. It wont be pretty but if you do nothing you are at risk of being next. Armed, masked, equipped with a hood to put over your head and handcuff you into the paddy wagon. The next step is a bunk in a labor camp or a trip out of your own country.
It may be no comfort to know this, but soon enough the bad actors here will turn on each other.
You might live to see it.
