American doctor receives email from immigration officials telling her to leave the country immediately

A doctor born in the United States says she received an email from federal immigration authorities demanding that she leave the country immediately.

Lisa Anderson, a physician from Cromwell, Connecticut, told NBC Connecticut on Wednesday that she recently received a letter from the Department of Homeland Security telling her, “It is time for you to leave the United States."

Immigration authorities have been pushing noncitizens to leave of their own volition, or “self-deport,” as the number of deportations remains at similar levels to last year.

But Anderson, 58, was born in Pennsylvania and is a U.S. citizen.

"The language seemed pretty threatening to whomever it might actually apply to," she said.

If I got this, I would say, "this is definitely Spam" and delete and ignore it.

I think I read that immigation authorities are sending these email to U.S. citizens because aliens gave them the email address.

It is a trivial task to create a mail-merge to insert the name of the intended recipient in the Dear XXXXX field for a mass emailing.

These are all addressed to no one in particular, heightening the fear. This doctor is now carrying her passport with her everywhere she goes, in case they really do believe she is not a US citizen.

Terroristic threats by the federal government against its own citizens.

that contains some percentage of duplicate terms. Not to prohibit making a new post, just a list of prior posts that have similarity scores above some cutoff. Then the new poster can look at the prior posts to see if they want to continue.

First of all, sometimes posters don't see a similar post (I didn't). Secondly, so what? There are pages and pages of posts. A person is supposed to go through all of them to make sure they don't make a duplicate?: Get over it.

It seems like identity theft most likely. Somebody used her email address on some form. Folks at DHS are probably scrambling to find out how the lady's email address got in the system. And they should be. If it really is identity theft in support of immigration law violation, there should be a long prison term for the perpetrator followed by deportation.

idjits are so ignorant that they're getting many citizens who have hispanic-sounding names mixed up with others. Problem is, that's what happens to innocents when attackers of any sort just fly by the seat of their pants.

physicians because some of my top ones are immigrant citizens. One is Indian or Pakistani, one German. The later is my cancer specialist at a local teaching hospital. Both are top-notch and I fear will leave the country because they are in high demand and why stay? This is aside from whether they get a letter or not.

Other countries with doc shortages are clamoring to get ours and we have our own shortfall.
