Our Bernese is 3 and our Leonberger is only 9 months, but we had to put down our 12-year-old German shepherd/English mastiff mix last year. He was arthritic when we adopted him at age 4. We gave him the best life we could for eight years and he brought us infinite joy -- until infinity ran out.

Damn shame that dogs' lifespans are so short.
