This is not just about immigrants. It is a test run because they know so many will not care what happens to those men. But we should all be concerned.
This wasn't just trump ramblings. The Sec of State actually discussed exiling Americans.
El Salvador's president has offered to "house in his jails dangerous American criminals" and accept deportees of any nationality, Secretary of State Marco Rubio said on Monday night.
Why it matters: Salvadoran President Nayib Bukele's offer is "the most unprecedented and extraordinary migratory agreement anywhere in the world," per remarks by Rubio that the State Department released.
Rubio made the announcement that was criticized by human rights groups while visiting El Salvador as part of a wider trip across Latin America to push for President Trump's "America First" policy, which includes plans for large-scale deportations of undocumented immigrants.
Driving the news: Rubio called Bukele's offer "an act of extraordinary friendship" and said it would include accepting for deportation "any criminal from any nationality," even members of the international criminal gangs MS-13 or Tren de Aragua, which Trump has designated as foreign terrorist organizations.
Among those Bukele has offered to house in Salvadoran jails are "dangerous American criminals in custody in our country, including those of U.S. citizenship and legal residents."
Rubio added: "No country's ever made an offer of friendship such as this."

"It is illegal to expatriate U.S. citizens for a crime. In fact, U.S. citizens can only be stripped of citizenship if they knowingly perform acts resulting in a voluntary relinquishment of citizenship such as a 'formal renunciation of nationality in the United States during a time of war' or 'leaving or remaining outside the United States during a time of war or national emergency to avoid military service.' However, even if imprisonment in El Salvador does not strip incarcerated citizens of their status, it is still illegal under Trumps own touted First Step Act."
"There is no modern precedent for sending U.S. citizens who are convicted of crimes to other countries for punishment, or 'banishment' as it has been formerly called and practiced."

Also, the Eighth Amendment of the U.S. Constitution prohibits cruel and unusual punishment. Trump is disappearing prisoners, without any due process, to torture gulags in El Salvador and gleefully telling everyone he's doing so precisely because the punishment will be extremely cruel and severe.
Trump is a criminal. Rubio is his accomplice.
