sinkingfeeling

I'm 77 and I never thought I would see the day when elected politicans would

not care about blatant national security breaches (Signal chat, non clearances for DOGE employees, TSF's stolen documents, etc.) and call for dismantling the federal courts. Then again, they are destroying every aspect of the US. History, Intelligence, NATO, international cooperation, education, research, healthcare, tourism, FEMA, and finance, to name a few.

And look at the freedoms we're losing. A right to choose to have a child or not, the right to state an opposing opinion, the right to read any book, the right to protest a corporation, and the right to hearing truth are a few being 'disappeared', along with some of our neighbors.

As many of you know, I'm currently in the act of packing a lifetime of belongings to make a permanent move to another country. It is heartbreaking to do this. But I also see a glimmer of living in peace, enjoying life without the stress and pain of being here. I'm watching everything I worked for being destroyed and just can't stay.

Gorbachev was basically honourable. Yeltsin stood up against a coup, and he wasn't a mass murderer. It's Putin and his regime that are as bad as Stalin.

Yes we have been sold out to the Russians, lock, stock and barrel.
And yes I toss and turn at night worried about all of it.
These are ruthless psychopaths who will destroy our safety net, our country, our democracy.
And not even blink.
Oh yes congress handed it all over to Putin. They are part of the coup.
They are not just complicit, they are part of the criminal enterprise.

If I were younger, I would leave this country.

I'm touring another country this month to figure out where in that country I will move should I get residency. Was gonna do this during Krasnov's first term but after waiting until Covid subsided, Biden was elected. I figured the US couldn't possibly be so stupid again so didn't pursue emigrating at the time. Then Krasnov resurfaced and began running, in earnest. I started planning for the move again, and after the election it's a done deal. If I don't get residency in one country I'll move down the list. Not staying in the US, no way no how.

For several years now, from the time Trump was 45, the IRS has reported AN EVER INCREASING NUMBER of UBER rich U.S. citizens becoming ex-pats......primarily relocating to Dubai and the Scandinavian countries.....Probably the same places where they have been "Off Shoring" their money for decades.....Even if those countries have stringent policies about accepting transplants, they would gladly accept the Uber Wealthy, considering all their money/assets..........

to 🇨🇦 if you are pessimistic. We are to be annexed, so your president says. Your fate could be even worse. In 1800 to,about 1830,
those loyal to England who came here were in a number of cases hunted down by the early version of the Fenians, an Irish nationalist association. Most United Empire Loyalists, as they were called, survived the vilification and made substantial contributions to early Canada.
Those early days are gone, you’ll have better luck elsewhwe. Will I flee? Unlikely, I am in the same age cohort as you. For better or worse I’m staying.

though many of us cannot move to another country. All the talk of "immigrants" in recent years and now it looks like Americans will be the immigrants. I wonder how welcome we will be in other countries.

This is what happens when there is NO ACCOUNTABILITY!

I want to push back on your great post just a little bit.

They are trying to destroy all that we hold dear, and I predict that it will blow up in their faces.

I have nothing to say that would impact your decision, because I know nothing of your situation, or what you're dealing with, but I, for one, am not going anywhere, or giving up anything without a fight.

Almost all of the most egregious shit they are trying to do, is being blocked, and we are going to need people like you to pick up the pieces and get this country back on track.

The majority of Americans didn't vote for this shitshow, and everyday, more and more people are getting involved in the resistance.

We have gone through tough times before in this country, and a lot of those times were 100 times worse than these past two months.

America isn't perfect, but we have weathered stormy seas before, and are a better country for it.

I wish you well in your travels, but please don't go far. We're going to need you.

I’m 77 also and, at times, my husband and I have discussed leaving. At this point, we have no idea where but likely Europe if we do. My husband is a geochemist and has many colleagues in Europe and South America. Some would likely help us if possible. On the one hand, It would be hard to leave my country where I have spent my entire life or my family and friends, and on the other hand I am fearful of living in a shit-hole country. You have to do whatever feels right for you. Best to you.

Given the deliberate destruction of our own government and the alienation of our allies, including nasty lies about the EU in that Signal chat, a US passport may not be welcome in the EU in the future. Several islands offer citizenship through investment. Have any of you ever invested in such a venture, and if so where?

all I ever heard from the Republicans was about them hating Russians like nothing else.....
Pinko Commies, better dead than Red, etc etc etc

And then, they seem to have learned liking Russia and cooperating with them, led them to un-imaginable Power and Money....

Right after Trump completes his annexation of Canada, Greenland, and Iceland, then Russia will Annex Alaska to start with, then the United States......Putin realizes that there are tons of things in Canada, Greenland and Iceland, that he wants and needs. So even Trump taking them over, is as good as Russia owning them. Trump, Musk, and Republicans will allow Russia to do anything they desire up there....

Putin/Russia is already going all out building a huge fleet of Nuclear powered, Heavy Class IceBreakers.....in preparation for establishing a Northern Passage for shipping...........With Global Warming, and everything to the North Pole getting warmer and melting his job of building the Northen Passage seems more and more do-able.....

of young men in 66-67-68-69-70 who made the decision to leave the country..........Many had figured out, that THE ONLY REASON for the U.S.'s Viet Nam involvement was to feed the Military Industrial Complex with un-fathomable amounts of profits, and they didn't even think about it costing tens of thousands of young men who were our nation's finest............

Of course if you were a rich kid, or privileged, you escaped the draft for four years of college, and places were reserved for you in the National Guard or Reserves when you graduated. Groups of Military that pretty much remained stateside. One most notable member of that GROUP was WBush who didn't even have to show up for duty..............

In 67-68 Defense Secretary McNamara told Johnson it was rumored the Norcoms were amassing a huge offensive, later called the TET OFFENSIVE. He needed 250,000 more draftees. He instructed recruiters that he had lowered the IQ requirement to 70? and to go after blacks because they were the easiest pickings. This group was known as: McNamara's Morons.......
Many young men left for Canada and other destinations rather than be sacrificed so a wealthy group of Corporations could make hundreds of millions of dollars off the Viet Nam mis-adventure......And, it has continued ever since then, one conflict or war after another.....
