This morning, my sister sent me a link to a news story about ICE removing a group of people in my home town. The men who were taken were fairly long-time employees of a roofing contractor. A number of the comments under the article were by home-owners who have had new roofs put on who noted how friendly, polite, and hard workers these men were. But there were a few that might be best summed up by a maga lad who said, You have to understand the owner is a Muslim!
There are times when I go to a grocery store just outside the town. Since I never ask human beings if they have green cards, I saw the group as human beings. I would speak with them, and knew that they were just looking to make a better life for their children. A while back, I encountered a mother and three Little Ones in the store. I would always say how cute and well-behaved the children were. Mom would say they were so energetic, and I'd respond that children should be.
So today I am thinking of those three children. They are no different than my children were at their ages. No different than my grandchildren will be in a few years. They come from families with a work ethic like that our ancestors had when they came here. They are human beings, and not illegals.

(3,863 posts)Is the point if all this I guess. I am so sorry your friends were taken by ice. This is awful when we can see first hand what this horror administration is doing. Bad enough to read about it, but to personally know those innocent people who are being hurt because of racism is really heart breaking.
We are faced with evil. I feel rather like Augustine did before becoming a Christian when he said, ' I tried to find the source of evil and I got nowhere. But it is also true that I and a few others knew what must be done if not to reduce evil to at least not add to it.' Perhaps we cannot prevent this world from being a world in which children are tortured. But we can reduce the number of children being tortured. And if you believers don't help us, who else in this world can help us do that?

Hey, I just posted one of my long and tedious essays. If it starts to sink like a heavy rock, can you save it?
