Greenland did not invite an American delegation to come visit this week, the self-ruling islands government said Monday, flatly denying a claim made by President Donald Trump ...
The planned visit has been met with anger in Greenland, with outgoing Prime Minister Múte B. Egede calling it part of the U.S. very aggressive bid to seize the Arctic island ...
We are now at a level where this cannot in any way be characterized as a harmless visit from a politicians wife.
The only purpose is to demonstrate power over us, he said ...
Just for the record, Naalakkersuisut, the government of Greenland, has not extended any invitations for any visits, neither private nor official, the government said in a post on Facebook ...

Second lady Usha Vance will travel to Greenland on Thursday, the White House announced, as part of a diplomatic trip to the massive frozen island. By going to a country that President Donald Trump has said he wants to buy or forcibly take, Vances visit will put her in the middle of one of the Trump administrations least diplomatic acts of diplomacy, making it even harder to deny Trumps blatant bullying.
Vance, who has kept a low profile since her husband, JD Vance, was sworn in as vice president, will be joined by one of the couples two sons. She said in an Instagram video that shes especially looking forward to attending the countrys national dogsled race. Im also coming to celebrate the long history of mutual respect and cooperation between our two nations, she added, and to express hope that our relationship will only grow stronger in the coming years.
Her mild words do little to paper over the current tensions between the U.S. and Greenland. Trump has been clear that he hopes to acquire the island from Denmark, reportedly at least in part because of how huge it appears on the most common map projection. Hes also hinted that it should be acquired for vague national security reasons or to obtain the minerals under its permafrost. Neither Greenland nor Denmark has been particularly enthusiastic about by Trumps remarks, even less so after Trump hinted that, if it were not put up for sale, he could take Greenland by force or economic leverage ...
It feels ridiculously unnecessary for Vance to be dragged into this mess as the soft power side of whats clearly a good cop-bad cop routine. But, then again, the vice presidency has long been regarded as one of the least consequential roles in Washington. By the transitive property alone, the role of the vice presidents spouse must be up there as far as gigs go. Second ladies (or, as of recently, gentlemen) havent accumulated the same sort of cache as cultural icons that first ladies have, but that still doesnt help explain the odd choice of Vances first solo destination ...

Hindutva is at war with secular democracy in India

...snip...
Hindu nationalism (also known as Hindutva) is ideologically a combination of religion and nationalism; it is a form of cultural nationalism that emphasises the supremacy of Hinduism and the Hindu majority. Hindu nationalism has continuously reproduced exclusionary practices toward other religious communities since its beginnings in 1925. The RSS (Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh), a Hindu militant organisation, fiercely divided Hindus along religious lines and reaffirmed its belief in Akhand Bharta (United India) with Hindus as rulers. Hindu nationalists have used religion more successfully than others for their goals. The function of Hindu religion in nationalism and its negative impact on secular democracy and human rights are also well known, especially the use of religion by Hindu nationalists in large scale anti-Muslim riots.
Why do Hindu nationalists view Indian secularism as a hostile discourse against a Hindu majority? Secularism in an Indian context allows for the equality and respect of all religions, whereas Hindu nationalism being an ethno-centric discourse rejects secularism, enforces supremacy of Hindu religion, rejects cultural diversity, remains intolerant to dissenting views and justifies violence against dissenters. Secularism promotes freedom of belief and qualified freedom to express ones beliefs while respecting the rights of others. Secularism also supports democracy, the rule of law, and individual freedom and liberty. The ideology of Hindutva, however, propagates the supremacy of Hindus over religious minorities, denies the latter any special rights and enforces the idea of one nation, one religion, one language, and one culture. In the Indian context, secularism instead promotes religious pluralism, religious tolerance, and cultural harmony between different faiths. Secularism strives for a society based on reason and rationality, while Hindutva promotes pseudo-science, myths and miracles as facts. It seeks to create an obedient society for the Hindu nation without the possibility of questioning unjust social dogmas.
Hindutva supporters have consistently attacked secularism as a state policy and weakened it through their communal practices of religious polarisation. According to Juli Gittinger, Hindu nationalists target is not the Muslim community, but rather secular nationalism. The ideology of secular nationalism poses a significant challenge to the project of homogeneity pursued by Hindutva organisations such as the RSS and Hindu Mahasabha.
The conflict between Hindu nationalism and secular democracy has become more apparent during the tenure of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, a right-wing Hindu nationalist...

(12 posts)The PM. of Greenland, I would let the plane land safely. Then surround it with military vehicles and one fuel truck. And then maybe let them open the door to get some fresh air inside (because of the stench), fuel it and include a stiff tariff. And direct it to take off.

Keep them at Pituffik space base.
Tell them there is a problem with their paperwork.
Then sieze and download any negatives about Greenland from their phones.
Then it's off to El Salvador.
Who needs real charges anyway?

(12,416 posts)Later, just hours after her comments, the White House sprang a fresh surprise, as the US vice-president, JD Vance, announced he would join his wife on a trip to the territory this week.
There was so much excitement around Ushas visit to Greenland this Friday that I decided that I didnt want her to have all that fun by herself, and so Im going to join her, Vance said in a video on X.
Speaking for President Trump, we want to reinvigorate the security of the people of Greenland because we think its important to protecting the security of the entire world.[/

Greenland shouldnt let either of them get off the base and into the streets
