by Sarah Fortinsky - 01/05/25 5:49 PM ET
Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) said Sunday he expects to pass President-elect Trumps agenda through one big reconciliation package before Memorial Day.
In an interview on Fox Newss Sunday Morning Futures, Johnson reiterated that Republicans will try to pack in as many policy items as possible into a large reconciliation bill, which would avoid the 60-vote threshold necessary to pass most legislation in the Senate.
Reconciliation legislation requires a simple majority, or 50 votes, in the upper chamber.
Were 15 days out from the inauguration of President Donald J. Trump for his second term. And we want to make sure that were jump-starting the agenda now over the next two weeks, so that hes prepared and ready on day one, Johnson said. We have a lot to do, as you know. And we have been putting all the plays together and figuring out the sequence of how were going to run those plays. And were really excited about it.
At the end of the day, President Trump is going to prefer, as he likes to say, one big, beautiful bill. And theres a lot of merit to that, because we can put it all together, one big up-or-down vote, which can save the country, quite literally, because there are so many elements to it. And itll give us a little bit more time to negotiate that and get it right, he said.

(10,662 posts)2. He means theyre gonna adopt all 900 pages of project 2025 and pass it through reconciliation,
And eliminate the filibuster in the senate so it's just a rubber-stamp vote there.
Leopards, motherfuckers. Leopards ALL the way down.

to go into overdrive to normalize whatever is in the bill. There will be few real discussions about what is in this bill, let alone how it affects the majority of the people.

(22,328 posts)5. Trump has no agenda
I'm taking this to mean, GOP congress will craft their own bill which extends the tax cuts and possibly includes banking deregulation. It won't include an end to taxes on tips or that much better health care than Obama care or tariffs. I probably doesn't even include more money for the border which would make it hard to fake balance.
I think whatever else Trump wants, they will let die in the 60 vote margin because they don't want it.
