The family has decided to take him off the ventilator. About an hour ago they shutdown the ventilator.
My sister did find after they were going through paperwork, my brother in law was a organ donor. So, they will take his liver and lungs and put them in the system to be transplanted.
Thank you again for all the well wishes and support.

(749 posts)Being an organ donor is a sign of being a good person. While you get no say to organ recipient, it is bit consoling. I followed the wishes of a relative and "pulled the plug". No major organs could be donated but skin/connective tissue and one other part which eludes my brain at this time could be. The person on the phone apologized a few times re: the questions asked (some were of a really personal nature of the deceased). But I could truthfully answer, I did, and I hope at least one person benefited.

(5,700 posts)In 1990, I lost one of my dearest friends to pulmonary hypertension. She was only 30 and died waiting for a heart and lung transplant.
Organ donors are heroes who transform lives and give hope. It does nothing to take away the pain of your family's loss but will hopefully help others from suffering that pain.
I'm truly sorry for your loss.

(5,289 posts)I kept hoping there was a good ending to that story, and he was going to walk out of there.
His organs may well help someone else. For some reason, I've never considered doing that. Time to fix that, I guess.

But what a fine person your brother-in-law must be to have thought of how he could help someone. I'm glad you have the comfort of knowing that about him. There's something eternal in giving that gift.
