"As an editorial cartoonist, my job is to hold powerful people and institutions accountable. For the first time, my editor prevented me from doing that critical job. So I have decided to leave the Post."

(2,059 posts)But they looked much older to a younger me.
I thought Robert Redford and Dustin Hoffman glamorized them a bit, but now I think they were spot on.

(2,059 posts)It looks dashed off, but that convincing corner of Trump--his tie, his posure--she says so much with so little. The Ceasar crowns, I especially love the depiction of Bezos, and of Micky Mouse prostrate. Offerings of money to the idol on the altar. Oh, and the very tiny Trump hands.
I didn't know her work before but I do now. Will look for where it next appears. A loss to WaPo

You picked up on the cartoonists code, too, and figured out who the fat giant (with the itty-bitty hands: key clue!) is. And theres the fat gut and the ridiculous long necktie - additional familiar trump symbols.
Cartoonists soooooo expertly boil it down, visually. They get you thinking in symbols. I find their work absolutely fascinating! You can say, imply, and suggest soooooooooo much more than mere words can. Just adds to the richness of the underlying message.

This act of censorship, of course, isnt an outlier: anticipatory obedience to fascism has risen ominously in recent months. It began with WaPo and the Los Angeles Times spiking endorsements of Kamala Harris, only to be outdone by Disney, who gifted Trump $15 million instead of fighting his flimsy defamation claim in court. Oh, and lets not forget Joe and Mikas humiliating field trip to Mar-a-Lago.
I dont know Ms. Telnaes but I admire her work, integrity, and courage. Im publishing the rough draft of her cartoon above in the hopes that youll share it. If enough people do, it will reach a larger audience than if her WaPo editor had had the cojones to run it. Actually, given how many subscribers have fled the paper in recent months, reaching a larger audience than the Washington Post isnt a daunting task.
Love,
Andy

I had covid in November and it wiped me out, but I am finally back to normal.

(2,106 posts)I almost made it thru the holidays unscathed. The other day I caught a 24-hour stomach bug. But my wife helped me recover.
This will be a tough four years on the world and all of us, worse than Nixon.

(60,068 posts)Glad you recovered from the flu bug.
Yes it is going to be a difficult four years.
Yes it may make the Nixon era look like a walk in the park.

(2,059 posts)which settled a lawsuit, giving Trump 15M for a museum/foundation, and compelling George Stefanopolous to apologize for a statement theough he likely would have won in court.
I don't know if she was holding Disney responsible for that, or something separate.

(155,906 posts)The $15 million will be in escrow until trump provides proof that a valid 501(c)(3) entity is formed for a presidential library. I wonder what happens if trump never forms this entity.
