The office of sheriff was abolished in 1965 when county governments were also dissolved. All 169 towns and cities have substantial home rule to run their own police (or use state police) and school systems.

I work on the Everett navy base as a subcontractor. Pretty diverse group. All much younger than me. No need to worry about the rank and file.
I do worry what would happen if TSF tries to use the military against the civilian population. The navy doesn't seem to attract rambo types. Those tend to gravitate to the army. Which is concerning due to the fact that white suppremist join for training purposes.
If troops our called out into the streets, I know that is the day I turn in my security badge when I walk out the gate.

Individuals are encouraged to join a the army, get the training and use to the groups advantage.
Not all of these nutjobs look like meal team 6. These guys are a quite serious threat. With a new administration, they can't wait for the call to Arms.

north of town. Super nice people. Singles, families, women, men. They do volenteer community outreach and community service in town. Every summer they open up the Base to the community and you can get a tour of the base, all the aircraft. My daughters walked through the interior of a C-5 Galaxy, the thing is like a cave inside.

I ask him from time to time what the political temperature is among his shipmates and his answer is always the same, as it has been going all the way back to basic training; they just don’t talk much about politics. We also have a few nephews and nieces in military service, and none are reporting any serious rightwing overtones. Most are just doing their duty and their jobs.

Now having said that, if TSF succeeds in clearing out all the “woke” generals and admirals and promotes in a group of sycophantic individuals that could certainly create some problems down the chain of command if they started issuing unconstitutional orders. But that’s a big if. But should that unthinkable occur, there’s still the fact that those orders have to filter down to men and women who have taken an oath to defend the Constitution, not serve a dictator. Lots of variables to be sure.

When I heard that both of the incidents this week were done by active duty military it stunned me.
