(1,208 posts)Linda Bean, the granddaughter of L.L. Bean founder Leon Leonwood Bean, donated $60,000 to Making America Great Again LLC, according to the Associated Press. That contribution exceeded the Federal Election Commissions allowable limit for the PAC and her support has prompted some to push for a boycott of the Maine-based company.
Trump, however, predicted that Beans support for him would only boost the companys bottom line.
Thank you to Linda Bean of L.L.Bean for your great support and courage, he wrote on Twitter Thursday morning. People will support you even more now. Buy L.L.Bean.

I had been too, but slipped up recently with my granddaughter and nostalgia for the candy I grew up with. I lived within an hour of Hershey and remember the town smelled like chocolate until they sent all the jobs away. Time to get tough.

(2,763 posts)but then I got to wondering....I think ACE is franchises. Could it be individual franchises donated? Am I harming local business if I boycott my local franchise? I'll try to research more when I have a few minutes...I've been working on a project that is due tomorrow...and don't have that much energy left right now.
I guess Lowes is next but I've never been as fond of them.

(3,008 posts)I know a lot of rich folks who would give to both sides of every race ...just to make certain that whoever won would "owe" them
Would love to see, side by side how much they gave to MAGAts and how much to Dems.
Not that excusing it. Because I see a lot if the usual suspects of hate like hobby lobby and Hardee's. Shocked that home Depot is not on the list.
ForgedCrank
(2,438 posts)the thing. 10 bucks says all of them gave to both, it's usually how they all do it. There are also probably many thousands missing from this list.
Besides, allowing myself to fall victim to rigid political stance to the point where I would participate in economic terrorism isn't in the cards for me. I think it's silly to be frank about it. Just like it's silly when MAGA does it.

Celerity
(47,026 posts)donations at times, not the firm itself. In some cases these firm's employees, on balance, gave more to Democrats than they did to Rethugs, but onto the list the firm or brand goes.
Urban Outfitters is a good example:
https://www.opensecrets.org/orgs/urban-outfitters/recipients?id=D000030711
Far more given to Dems than Rethugs

(1,208 posts)Along with the link, I literally included the disclaimer "I am not sure how comprehensive this list is." So, there's that. Further, there are only three kinds of posts I make. (1) straight up informational, which include links to my sources, (2) straight up editorializing, which only include my opinions, and (3) irreverent commentary, albeit attempting to avoid poo poo and pee references that seem so popular these days (sometimes I fail). The post atop this thread is informational and therefore belongs to category (1).
Celerity
(47,026 posts)as saying you are unsure of the accuracy of it.
Also, the only link you gave was the link to the list itself.
And again, the list conflates individual employee contributions with the firms themselves.
The list is misleading and in some cases inaccurate, as I showed with my reply.
2 other examples: (from the list, and I can show more)
Wonder Bread
Wonder Bread is not a company, it is just a brand name.
LL Bean (vast majority of contributions went to Dems and Dem associated indies and liberal orgs, yet under the bus they go on the list you posted)
https://www.opensecrets.org/orgs/ll-bean-inc/summary?id=D000042703
other contributions (to the independents King and Sanders) and then to liberal orgs other than direct contributions to individual Democratic candidates
PeaceWave
(1,208 posts)Celerity
(47,026 posts)then it is on me for posting it.
Example:
A tweet or article I post has false info.
Me saying 'take it up with the tweeter or the article author ' is not a valid reply/excuse for me posting the false info if the false info is pointed out by other DU posters.

(1,208 posts)This, from Democrat Abroad's own website:
https://www.democratsabroad.org/our_party
Democrats Abroad is the official Democratic Party arm for the millions of Americans living outside the United States. We strive to provide Americans abroad a Democratic voice in our government and elect Democratic candidates by mobilizing the overseas vote.

(47,026 posts)The list is also is misleading as it implies it was the firms that contributed, when it was simply employees of the firms, not the firms themselves. It also lists brand names that are not even standalone companies.

(27,337 posts)A daily populist conspiracy theory in 2016 was that Hillary was 100% corrupt and beholden to Wall Street, had to do whatever they said forever and ever, by convincing people that donations of a few hundred dollars from employees working for companies on Wall Street were actually from the evil neoliberal big money status quo Goldman Sachs and other evil financial companies. So stupid!
