Why It Matters
While DEI initiatives in the workplace became commonplace over the past decade, they have recently faced more scrutiny from both a legal and cultural standpointwith some companies rolling back their DEI initiatives following boycotts led by conservative consumers.
Project 2025, a series of policies supported by several backers of the incoming Trump administration, lists abolishing DEI practices in both the public and private sectors among the core goals of the next conservative government.
What To Know
Costco's board of directors rejected requests to remove its DEI program, which shareholders described as "illegal discrimination," prompting backlash from members of the MAGA movement.

(49,607 posts)Costco because the company doesn't discriminate against women, LBGQT, anyone-but-white employees, etc. IOW, it doesn't practice white privilege.

(3,690 posts)up with parents, teachers, ministers, politicians who all told me that this country stood for inclusion, and my generation further fought for diversity and equity. We thought we at least partially succeeded.
Now, in my elder years, I'm told my generation was all wrong. We're supposed to all be the same, except that we're not equal and we're supposed to exclude people (from what?).
Mind boggling.

(24,667 posts)If you look at the label on a platter of sliced Ribeyes, you will see that their cooking recommendation is to cook the steaks to 160F ! Of course one hundred sixty Fahrenheit on a steak is way too well done. The reason they say that on their labels is because they use a needle style industrial meat tenderizer, something like this;
So they have to put the recommendation for the higher cooking temp to cover themselves from liability if cross contamination should occur. If you get a stomach bug because you cooked one of their steaks medium rare, they can just say "We told you so".
I asked one of their meat cutters if they do the same thing to the entire rib roasts and he said they don't.
So, the bottom line is: Don't buy their individual steaks. Instead buy the whole roast and cut the steaks yourself. It is a little cheaper by the pound and you won't have to worry about any cross contamination.
Just my $.02

(33,327 posts)I'd have joined up from the start. They're a great company with lots good products and good deals--which is why MAGAts will say they're going to boycott. But, most of them won't. They're full of shit.

(5,145 posts)I asked if she noticed any lessening of customers. She laughed and said, it was as crowded as usual and the car that was in front of her had a trump bumper sticker. So the so called boycott doesn't seem to have gained much traction her in SW Florida. I'm so surprised, not.
