Arbitrary? Possibly. Still, this is a life lesson I learned many years ago. And, with very few exceptions, it works. It's quite simple. If you like Rod Stewart, you will get along with other people who like Rod Stewart. If you hate Rod Stewart, you will get along with other people who hate Rod Stewart. Divorces could likely be avoided if this simple fact were more commonly known. Perhaps the world itself would be a happier place, with the pro-Rods and anti-Rods partnering up that much more easily. I can't say such a thing about any other musical artist/group. With that said, here's Maggie May from 1971.

(35,709 posts)I've heard the name, but I couldn't tell you anything beyond the name. Before I scrolled down to the image (which suggests music), I might have guessed an author.
ETA: I do recognize the song in the video now that I played a bit of it - but even hearing the song I couldn't name any other of his songs (and I certainly don't recognize the face).

If I love the Beatles, I will get along with other people who love the Beatles. If I hate the Beatles, I will get along with other people who hate the Beatles.
If I love Beethoven, I will get along with other people who love Beethoven. If I hate Beethoven, I will get along with other people who hate Beethoven.
If I love XXXXX (insert any musician's name here), I will get along with other people who love XXXXX. If I hate XXXXX, I will get along with other people who hate XXXXX. Perhaps the world itself would be a happier place, with the pro-XXXXXs and the anti-XXXXXs partnering up that much more easily. I can't say such a thing about any other musician.
Well, I disagree. I can say such a thing about ANY musician. I don't understand the distinction you're trying to draw between Rod Stewart's fandom or the lack thereof and those of any other musician. Please explain your reasoning more fully.
By the way, I love Linda Ronstadt, the Beatles, and Beethoven. I used to listen to Rod Stewart sometimes back in the 1970s, but I can't say I loved him. He was okay, though.

But I have seen Rod at least 7 times in the last 50 years. And even this year ! He was slower but still sang well and it was a great show!

(54,167 posts)I wore out my copy of Atlantic Crossing. I never even bought Blondes Have More Fun--it was bad enough hearing "Do Ya Think I'm Sexy?" over and over again on the radio.

Seems a bit extreme!

(3,607 posts)And Maggie May is my very favorite of his.
I love watching Ron Wood smirking all the way through.
So love me or hate me I love Rod .
Retrograde
(10,772 posts)especially Maggie May. Mr. Retrograde can't stand him. We've been married for 50 years. We also disagree on Neil Young: Mr. Retrograde thinks he's a pivotal fixture in 60s rock, I think his voice is like nails on a chalkboard (although he does seem to be a decent human being, and is active in various local charities. I just don't like how he sings)

What? You know anything about sociology? Seems you might have done quite a sociological experiment
for 50 years to make such a profound statement. Maybe while at work? How did you come to this
conclusion.? Thank you for the post, as it has made me stop worrying for 5 minutes.
